The Benin government will auction off the luxury items of opposition figure and business tycoon, Sébastien Ajavon, including a Rolls Royce.

The car alone is worth $122,339 (£101,853) according to the AFP news agency.

There are 140 other items of Mr Ajavon that will be up for sale.

Mr Ajavon is exiled in Paris after being handed a 20-year jail sentence in absentia on drugs charges.

He has denied any wrongdoing and the case was originally thrown out because of lack of evidence, the AFP reports.

His conviction was labelled illegal by the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, but Benin stands by the conviction, the report says.

He previously ran unsuccessfully as a presidential candidate in Benin’s 2016 election. He later gave his support to Patrice Talon, who eventually won and is the current head of state.

However, relations between the two men soon deteriorated.
