Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) was elected the president of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) in Nigeria yesterday July 20, 2022.

The founder of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation faced stiff competition with the current Vice President of AFA in what pundits described as a make or break for AFA in the coming years, but emerged victorious by a landslide margin.

Charles Osei Asibey, known in the sports media circles as “The Barrister” is a broadcast journalist and the current  General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) former Communications Director for the Ghana Olympic Committee and former Board Member of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation.

In 2019, Mr. Osei Asibey was honoured as the Best Sports Administrator in Ghana by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and in the United States of America by 3G Media.

Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo commended him for his contribution to sports development during his victory speech after winning the 2016 General Elections in Ghana.

“While elated by his success and proud of his elevation, it comes as no surprise as the association knows him as a hardworking, selfless, innovative, and dedicated member and scribe whose drive has contributed to its success”, a congratulatory message from SWAG reads.

“From what he has achieved with the Armwrestling Federation in Ghana, SWAG has no doubt that during his tenure, he will bring the same level of his leadership  qualities to bear on the continental body as it strives to achieve its aims and objective.

Once again, we congratulate our General Secretary”
