The death toll from ravaging floods in Uganda’s Mbale city has risen to 24, according to the Uganda Red Cross.

The city experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday night, causing river Namatala and river Nashibiso to break their banks.

The resultant floods ravaged various parts of the city, destroying buildings, property and rendering homes inhabitable.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, involving the police, the army and the Red Cross.

The police has advised people residing on riparian lands to vacate in order to avoid any similar incidents in the future.
