Chris Hughton’s era as Ghana coach has began with a win against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Antoine Semenyo climbed off the bench to score the only goal of the game late in stoppage at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday in a match that saw the captain of the black stars, Andre Ayew at the bench throughout the entire duration of the game.

The win takes the Black Stars on top of Group E with 7 points after three rounds of matches.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United manager has been in charge of the team since February 2023, following successful negotiations with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association.

Chris Hughton replaced Otto Addo who left the role after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament that took place in November/December last year.

The 64 year old trainer will be aiming to continue his winning start when his side face the Palancras Negras in the reverse fixture in Luanda four days later.
